"The Beautiful Shores of Hawaii"

In 1959, the Dadeville High School Future Farmers of America Club commissioned my Dad to write a song for their club band to play in a state-wide talent competition. Dad wrote "The Beautiful Shores of Hawaii" for them and they actually won the talent competition playing an instrumental version of the tune! Because they came in first place, they were allowed to perform their winning number on WSFA TV in Montgomery, AL. This is a great testimony to Dad's writing that he was able to compose a piece of music that was so well-suited for the club's band that they came out on top of all the other FFA club bands in the entire state. As I said earlier, the band played the song as an instrumental for the talent competition, but it has beautiful words as well. On the beautiful shores of Hawaii,

where I first met the girl of my dreams.

On the beautiful shores of Hawaii,

'Neath the beautiful silver moon beams.

I know she's alone in Hawaii,

In her arms how I long to be.

As the moon full tonight over Hawaii,

I wonder, does she ever think of me.

The reflection of her smile in Pearl Harbor,

ceases my sorrow and strife.

I long to return to Hawaii;

She lights up my life.
