"My Last Night to Cry"

The theme of this song, written by my Dad in 1959, is a universal one: someone is crying over a broken heart. EVERYONE has had a broken heart at one time or another, and if you haven't had one so far, get ready; yours is coming! I have had several in my lifetime and they are NO FUN at all. A broken heart hurts something awful and can take years to heal. In some cases, people can have hearts that never recover from a severe emotional wound. I even knew someone who, like Dad's song says, literally died for a few moments because he was in a state of grief over a broken relationship. Luckily, doctors were able to bring him back to life.

In this song, the person has cried and cried over his broken heart; he has cried until he is sick of it! He is finally saying, "No more tears! I'm not crying over you any longer! Someday, I may even die over you, as my friend did tomporarily, but, by George, I'm not gonna cry over you anymore!"

Here are the words to "My Last Night to Cry" by my father, Loyal Pritchard

It's my last night to cry, sweetheart, over you,

Yes, my eyes will soon be dry.

Someday I may die, sweetheart, over you,

But, tonight is my last night to cry.

I'll catch my largest tears and save them through the years.

I'll cry, though no one will hear.

Sweetheart, so you will know that you did not have to go;

You'll never know the sorrow of my last night to cry.
