Mornings with Kenny Dean

It started out a few years ago as a call to get the morning obituaries, but the truth of the matter is, it was more about getting to talk with someone she loved and admired. That person was, and still is, Kenny Dean!

We all know who Kenny is, and my Mother calls him every morning just to “get the obituaries” and ask how he is doing. She used to watch him on “The Front Porch,” but now, in the area where we live, we can no longer pick up the station that carries the show. Still, Mom continues to be a fan of Kenny’s and loves starting out her day by giving him a call. It’s an essential, along with her morning breakfast!

And Kenny, being the kind, thoughtful person that he is, makes time to take her call every morning, and in closing out their brief chat, sometimes even tells her that he loves her. How do I know this? Because I’ve heard Mom say, “Love you, too!”

And for that, I just want to say a great big “THANK YOU, KENNY!” for giving my 87-year old Mother your ear and attention each day. It’s a small thing that makes her day in a big way, and it has never gone unnoticed because, it makes MY day, too!
