Things to wake you up on the job:
When you answer the phone and the voice says, "Hi! I'm the keyboard technician for the rock band "Journey," and we're performing in Birmingham today! My first thought was, Are you in a bind for a keyboard player? I can oblige! NOT - no way, Hosea, but it sure is a nice fantasy. They were in need of a cover for a grand piano. (I work at Ellis Piano in Birmingham, Alabama.)
When the caller ID says "Nicholas Saban" - it's usually Coach Saban's son, Nicholas, but none the less, everyone waits silently with baited breath to hear my conversation with him. (I'm first on the phones.) We've sold instruments to both Nicks and continue to service them as needed. These two men are super-nice and down-to-earth - so is the rest of the family!
My favorite is the day I answered the phone and the customer sounded EXACTLY like the character played by Martin Short in the movie "Father of the Bride" - you know, Franck, the wedding planner? I promise you I couldn't tell the difference. For a minute, I thought I was on "Candid Camera!" It was really hard not to laugh out loud!
God throws me candy every now and then, and I'm always grateful!
